Moodymann's eponymous album is probably the album I listened to most this year. The album actually came out in 2014, but somehow I missed the release and only picked it up in April when I was in Tokyo. That became the soundtrack of my trip, bringing me to different parts of Tokyo from Shibuya to Shinagawa Seaside.
I'm not a music critic, and it's difficult for me to describe Moodymann's music and why I like it so much. Instead, let me paraphrase Pitchfork. "Jazz chords, R&B melancholy, snatches of old soul and plenty of cosmic-mindedness abound in Moodymann’s work, and his self-titled album also throws in plenty of gospel, blues, house music, roller-rink funk." In other words, what's there not to love?
